TMJ stands for Temporomandibular Joint. This is how the lower jaw hinges from the skull. There are groups of muscles that control jaw movements like chewing and talking. If you are experiencing pain in the muscles or joint then it is referred to as TMD (Temporomandibular Disorder.) This may be caused by stress, clenching, and teeth grinding.

TMD can have multiple symptoms which may include:

  • Difficulty chewing
  • Pain opening and closing the jaw
  • Jaw is stuck open or closed
  • Headaches around joint or in temporal region
  • Ear aches
  • Clicking or popping sounds when opening and closing
  • Grinding teeth
