Bone grafting
Bone grafting is a procedure to regain jaw bone where it may be insufficient to place a dental implant or other restoration. Often the best time to place a bone graft is directly after a tooth has been extracted. Placing bone in the site where the tooth used to be allows for fast healing and preserving the site for the future. If nothing is placed after an extraction it is common that a lot of bone will thin out and shrink, making it more difficult for the future.
The graft material may be acquired from the individual or from another source. These sources include cadaver or animal fragments from a tissue bank. These are very safe and effective to use.
